Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (FGSBS) provides opportunities for students to develop their
interests and prepare a base of knowledge and experience to pursue successful careers in biomedical
research and education. The mission of the TTUHSC El Paso FGSBS is to educate the next generation of
scientists and health-related professionals by providing a dynamic research environment oriented to satisfy
the learning needs of an energetic group of students by fostering creativity and discovery.
The FGSBS is the only school of higher education in El Paso to offer an interactive and collaborative
environment for students to learn alongside future and established researchers, physicians, dentist, and
nurses. Those collaborations provide a framework that can continue after graduation, and will make our
students exceptional healthcare professionals, educators, and researchers.
The FGSBS strengthens its commitment to promoting student achievement through continuous innovation in
education, teaching, and research through a superior and competitive training environment by utilizing stateof-
the-art research laboratories established within the Department of Molecular and Translational Medicine at
TTUHSC El Paso. The Department of Molecular and Translational Medicine is organized into four Centers of
Emphasis (Cancer, Diabetes and Metabolism, Infectious Diseases, and Neurosciences). The research
conducted within the Centers of Emphasis aims to apply novel concepts, methodologies, and technologies to
areas of health concern prevalent in the El Paso border community.
