Lab Tian – Post-Doctoral Fellow (Computational Biology and Bioinformatics)

The Wistar Institute has an opening for a motived candidate to join the Bin Tian lab as a Post-Doctoral Fellow to study regulation of mRNA processing and metabolism in cancer using computational and bioinformatic approaches. One area of our research is to examine how dysregulation of mRNA processing steps, especially the 3' end processing, impacts mRNA metabolism, such as subcellular localization and translation, and helps cancer cell survival and metastasis. A second area of our research is to examine therapeutic approaches that target vulnerabilities of cancer cells in mRNA processing and metabolism. The studies will involve transcriptomic analyses using various platforms, including long-read sequencing, single cell sequencing and spatial transcriptomics. Machine learning techniques will be heavily used for identification of determinant features that regulate mRNA processing and metabolism. Extensive collaborations with basic science and clinical science colleagues are expected. 

 

Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or a related field. Candidates who have experience in experimental biology and wish to advance a career in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology are also encouraged to apply. The Tian lab uses interdisciplinary approaches to study mRNA biogenesis and metabolism, with a special focus on the molecular mechanisms and cellular consequences of alternative cleavage and polyadenylation. We employ a variety of cutting-edge techniques spanning multiple fields, including molecular and cellular biology, computational biology and bioinformatics, and advanced imaging.
