The University of California, Davis School of Medicine invites applications for a distinguished and visionary academic leader with a record of accomplishment in administration, research, and education to serve as the Chair of the Department of Cell Biology and Human Anatomy. The Department of Cell Biology and Human Anatomy is a hub for the cell biology community that expands across the colleges of UC Davis and UC Davis Medicine. The department is dedicated to delivering groundbreaking discoveries with global impact and training the next generation of health science leaders.

The School of Medicine (SOM) is among the nation's leading medical schools committed to scholarly advancement and education and consistently ranked by U.S. News & World Report for these efforts. The SOM comprises more than 20 Clinical Departments and six Basic Science Departments including Cell Biology and Human Anatomy. To support the integration of basic science and clinical medicine, the SOM created the renowned UC Davis Center for Precision Medicine and Data Sciences which serves to convene diverse research teams to tackle healthcare challenges through inter- and transdisciplinary approaches to solving big biomedical problems from the atom to the neighborhood. The UC Davis Stem Cell program brings together over 150 physicians, research scientists, biomedical engineers, and a range of other experts to collaborate on disease specific teams.

The Institution excels at translating scientific discoveries and new technology into improved patient care with a research-funding portfolio of over 1,300 active awards with more than $390 million in NIH funding. Reporting to the Dean, UC Davis SOM, the Chair has responsibility for all faculty, learners, and staff in the department. They will be a visionary leader, with a successful record of achievement in academic research in cell biology or appropriately related fields. Exceptional accomplishments as an academician are also critical as the Chair's duties will include continuing their own research program as well as supervising and maintaining academic activities. Prior extensive administrative experience as a department chair, vice chair, or director of graduate studies or equivalent is preferred.

A Ph.D., M.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent terminal degree is required in addition to demonstrating success as a nationally prominent academic leader and role model with an established record of excellence in research, education, and mentorship. The next Chair will possess a strong track record of teaching medical students in addition to research training for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
