SUMMARY

The Leroy T. Canoles Jr. Cancer Research Center at Eastern Virginia Medical School is in search of a candidate to fulfill the duties of a Research Scholar/Postdoctoral Fellow in the Center for Biomedical Proteomics. The research team is a leader in the field of biological mass spectrometry, proteomics and cancer biomarker discovery and development. We have continuing long-term translational research funding to develop biomarkers for prostate cancer disease stratification. As a Biomarker Characterization Center (BCC) of the NIH/NCI Early Detection Research Network (EDRN), our broad objective is to identify and validate novel urine and tissue biomarkers for early detection of aggressive forms of prostate cancer. In our collaborative BCC we continue to participate in intensive, long-term and large-scale development of clinically robust mass spectrometry based multiomics assays that incorporate these novel biomarkers for validation and quantitation of clinical performance. The successful candidate will be incorporated into the project team and will participate in project planning, experimental design, sample processing, LC/MS, computational and pathway analysis, data interpretation. The position will provide an excellent opportunity to learn and utilize quantitative proteomics as well as cell and molecular biology, while working with dynamic and interdisciplinary research teams at the Eastern Virginia Medical School. The position will also include opportunities to co-author publications and to contribute to the development of grant proposals. The successful applicants will join a closely knit collaborative team consisting of research scientists, graduate students, and faculty from other research groups. Professional development is strongly encouraged including support for professional travel to relevant conferences and training workshops.
