The International Institute for Sustainability with Knotted Chiral Meta Matter (SKCM²) at Hiroshima University is currently accepting applications for a Deputy Administrative Director of the Institute. As a research center created under the World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI), our mission at SKCM² is to develop a new interdisciplinary research paradigm known as "knotted chiral meta matter," as well as provide interdisciplinary training and international research and education experiences to students and postdoctoral fellows. 

About the Role 

The Deputy Administrative Director will work closely with the Administrative Director, providing vital administrative support to the Director, faculty-level researchers, postdocs, and graduate students from all over the world.  The duties include day-to-day operations, financial management, equipment acquisitions, proposal submissions, dissemination of research outcomes, outreach, assistance with organizing summer/winter schools and international scientific symposia, planning of the new WPI building, etc. The Deputy Administrative Director will also help coordinate research exchange among PIs and co-PIs from different institutions and SKCM² nodes, such as Tokyo Tech, MIT, RIKEN, Cambridge University, CU-Boulder, and many others, besides Hiroshima University.

Competitive salaries are provided according to the grant-based budget items while complying with Hiroshima University’s pay regulations. Besides the regular wages, SKCM² will allocate meritocracy-based bonuses according to the significance of the Deputy Admin Director’s contributions to the WPI project. 

As a WPI research center, SKCM² intends to establish a stimulating international research environment where about 20% of Supporting Office Staff are non-Japanese, with extensive experiences of working in academic administration settings outside Japan or graduates from foreign Universities or/and with a track record of providing administrative support in setting similar to that of our WPI.
