As part of a major, multi-year initiative to expand research activities in Microelectronics Design across the IU Bloomington campus, the College of Arts and Sciences and the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering invite applications for five tenure-track/tenured positions at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank to begin in the Fall of 2024. Appointments will be in one or more departments, Intelligent Systems Engineering, Chemistry, and Physics.

We are particularly interested in candidates working in the following areas related to microelectronics design:

  • Microelectronics design for complex systems, heterogeneous integrated devices, artificial intelligence, multimodal sensing, high-performance computing, radiation-tolerant systems, extreme environments, and biomedical and nanotechnological applications.
  • Experimental chemistry that interfaces with microelectronics, including but not limited to spintronics, optoelectronics, nanophotonics, imaging and spectroscopic probes of correlated electrons in quantum materials, and energy-matter interactions.
  •  Experimental physics that interfaces with microelectronics, including but not limited to relevant activities, such as integrated circuit design, system-on-chip, heterogenous computing, radiation tolerance, artificial intelligence and machine learning, as applied in condensed matter physics, quantum information, nuclear physics, particle physics and astrophysics.

Candidates who conduct research that complements our activities in establishing the Center for Reliable and Trusted Electronics (CREATE), and ongoing efforts with the Department of Defense, the National Science Foundation, and industry, will be given preference. We encourage applications from scholars who apply interdisciplinary perspectives across a variety of these domains.

Qualifications: Applicants should possess a PhD in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry (or a related field) and be committed to excellence in scholarship and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Responsibilities: Candidates are expected to sustain an active, externally funded research program, to engage undergraduate and graduate students through effective teaching, and to participate in service to the university and the profession. Candidates should be able to work effectively in a team environment. To advance scholarly innovation and excellence, we especially welcome candidates who will broadly increase the university’s diversity, equity, and inclusion through any of the following: their lived experience, research, teaching, and/or mentoring.

Application Procedures: Applicants should apply online and include a letter of application; CV; statements on research and teaching; a diversity statement which addresses engagement with fostering a diverse and welcoming work environment. Applicants seeking appointment at the Assistant Professor rank should apply at https://indiana.peopleadmin.com/postings/21661 and provide three letters of reference. Applicants seeking appointment with tenure should apply at https://indiana.peopleadmin.com/postings/21658 and be prepared to provide the names of six references. References for applicants seeking appointment with tenure will only be contacted for those candidates moving to advanced stages of consideration. Review of applications will begin immediately and for best consideration, applications should be received by January 3, 2024. All queries about the position or the application procedures may be addressed to faculty1@indiana.edu.

Before any conditional offer of employment with tenure is finalized, candidates will be asked to disclose any pending investigations or previous findings of sexual or professional misconduct. They will also be required to authorize an inquiry by Indiana University Bloomington with all current and former employers along these lines. The relevance of information disclosed or ascertained in the context of this process to a candidate’s eligibility for hire will be evaluated by Indiana University Bloomington on a case-by-case basis. Applicants should be aware, however, that Indiana University Bloomington takes the matters of sexual and professional misconduct very seriously.
