Postdoctoral Scientist / Career Development Fellow
Salary £39,375 per annum
MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK
An opportunity is available for a Postdoctoral Scientist to join the group of Dr Jing Ren at the MRC LMB (Cambridge, U.K.) to investigate how local circuits coordinate different serotonin sub-systems in the context of affective behaviours. Mental disorders are the leading cause of disabilities worldwide, and the serotonin (5-HT) system of the brain is the primary neural system targeted in treating the most common mental disorders. Dr Jing Ren's research has unveiled that projection-defined serotonin sub-systems receive distinct and biased inputs from different brain regions. However, the modulation of these sub-systems by local circuits remains uncertain. Local connections play a critical role in shaping how serotonin neurons process incoming information and generate output signals. Understanding the coordination of different serotonin sub-systems by local circuits is vital in comprehending the intricate impacts of serotonin on diverse physiological and behavioural processes.
