Assistant, Associate, or Professor of Genetics
Department of Genetics
Stanford University School of Medicine
The Department of Genetics at Stanford University seeks one faculty member to join the Department at the Assistant, Associate, and/or Full Professor level on the University Tenure Line. This faculty member will be additionally jointly appointed as a Core Investigator at the Arc Institute.
Although all areas of research will be considered, we are particularly interested in candidates who hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree who have a record of achievement in developing or using innovative approaches for basic, translational and clinical sciences in the broad areas of genetics, genomics, other “omics”, and precision health.
The predominant criterion for appointment in the University Tenure Line is a major commitment to research and teaching. Candidates should be highly interactive, be expected to run a successful, independent research program of excellence and to participate in teaching and other activities in the department. Faculty Rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
The individual will hold a Stanford Genetics appointment with all rights and privileges afforded Genetics faculty. In addition, the individual, as an Arc Core Investigator, will have office and research space with the Arc Institute, and receive all rights and privileges afforded by the Arc Institute, including annual funding. For this joint appointment, Genetics and Arc are conducting independent search processes and candidates will be evaluated and selected by both committees. Two separate applications are required (see below).
The Department of Genetics at the Stanford University School of Medicine offers a highly collegial and interdisciplinary environment that spans clinical medicine, translational medicine, human genetics, computational biology, model-organism genetics, microbial genetics, gene regulation, models of disease and genome-scale approaches. For more information, see http://med.stanford.edu/genetics.html. The Arc Institute is a nonprofit research organization founded on the belief that many important scientific programs can be enabled by new organizational models. Arc operates in partnership with Stanford University, UCSF, and UC Berkeley. More information is available at https://arcinstitute.org.
Candidates are encouraged to apply electronically by December 1, 2023 with a curriculum vitae, a brief cover letter, a 3-page statement of research plans, a 1-page teaching statement, and the names of three references to: https://facultypositions.stanford.edu/en-us/job/494652. Applicants for the position at the Assistant Professor rank should also arrange to have three letters of evaluation submitted with their application.
Candidates interested in this joint position with Arc are required to additionally apply through the Arc Institute here: https://arcinstitute.org/jobs/faculty-and-fellows, where more information on all aspects of the Core Investigator role, including salary ranges, is provided.
The expected base pay range for this position is:
- Assistant Professor: 185,000 - $203,000
- Associate Professor: $218,000 - $242,000
- Professor: $266,000 - $296,000
This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It may not include all components of faculty compensation or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs. For more information about compensation and our wide-range of benefits, including housing assistance, please contact the hiring department.
Stanford University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including equivalent years in rank, training, and field or discipline; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.

The Department of Genetics, School of Medicine, and Stanford University value faculty who will help foster an inclusive academic environment for colleagues, students, and staff with a wide range of backgrounds, identities, and outlooks. Candidates may choose to include as part of their research and teaching statements a brief discussion about how their work and experience will further these ideals.
