Faculty Positions in Cryo-EM Structural Biology at Penn State

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Penn State invites applications for a tenure/tenure-track Associate or Full Professor-level appointment with expertise in the broad area of single particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and/or cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET) to establish a vibrant and externally funded structural biology research program. The successful applicants will join the highly collaborative Center for Structural Biology and be a part of the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences. This appointment is located at University Park, Pennsylvania, USA.

Competitive applicants will have a Ph.D., a record of creative research accomplishments, an innovative future research plan, an ability to achieve teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and a commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community in the practice and teaching of science. The position features outstanding research space and competitive start-up package, and will have priority access to the Huck Cryo-EM Facility at Penn State housing 300kV Titan Krios and 200kV Talos Arctica microscopes.

Candidates for Associate Professor should possess a terminal degree or its equivalent in organized research or professional practice; must have demonstrated ability as a teacher or research worker; and must also provide evidence of an established reputation in scholarly, artistic, or professional achievement.

Candidates for Professor should possess the same qualifications as the associate professor, but must also provide evidence of a substantial record of advanced research and/or creative work, and of leadership in their field of specialization. This rank should be reserved for persons of proven stature in teaching and/or research.

  • Statement of teaching philosophy and interests (1 page)
