Jiangmen Laboratory of Carbon Science and Technology (JCL) invites applications for positions of Principal Researcher (PI)/Postdoc Researcher positions in research areas of (1) Silicon energy power system; (2) Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS); (3) Energy Storage; (4) Ecosystem carbon accounting and fixation, carbon data analytics and zero-emission system design; (5) Carbon capture and industrial utilization; (6) Climate change policy and finance.

 

Jiangmen Laboratory of Carbon Science and Technology (JCL) is jointly founded by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST(GZ)) and Jiangmen Municipal Government. It orients research and development to national strategic targets of decarbonization, climate change and mitigation. Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) was established in 1991 and ranked 40th in the 2023 QS World University Ranking. With two campuses in Hong Kong and Guangzhou (opened in 2022), HKUST promotes cross-disciplinary research, education and innovation in areas of strategic significance.

 

Located in a most vibrant region of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA) in south China, HKUST(GZ)-JCL aims to attract the most talented scientists to tackle the grand challenges facing humanity by pursuing cutting-edge research in partnership with leading scientists. The awardees will receive globally competitive support with an annual stipend, including a basic salary and living allowances with medical insurance and pension. More benefits of equivalent amount may be available to eligible candidates meeting additional requirements. The exact amount of the stipend is determined based on individual qualifications and subject to related policies. Excellent living and working environment with experimental and computation facilities are provided to all fellows. Each awardee will receive start-up funding.

Research Areas

Job requirements:

 

  1. Candidates are expected to be employed at the HKUST(GZ)-JCL in Jiangmen city, Guangdong Province, China;
  2. Candidates must hold a doctoral degree with demonstrated achievement in research in climate and carbon science, chemical engineering, materials science, technology, policy, finance, agriculture, ecology and related fields;   
  3. Working languages are English and Chinese;
  4. Ability to work independently, with a sense of responsibility and teamwork spirit.

Positions:

 

Principal Researcher (PI), Associate Researcher, Assistant Researcher, Postdoctoral Fellow.

 

Salary and treatment:

 

  1. Provide world’s leading generous remuneration (annual salary system with flexible adjustment) and additional government allowance or subsidies;
  2. Provide sufficient scientific research funds and equipment, set up scientific research support teams, and issue corresponding subsidies and performance rewards according to candidate’s work ability and contribution;
