Position Description

The Department of Environmental Sciences (ENVS) at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, is searching for an established colleague with a strong track record of teaching and research focused on the environmental and human dimensions of global environmental change. We seek an interdisciplinary scholar, who conducts climate research that integrates biophysical processes with social issues, with a focus on broader impacts.

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary department with 20 Faculty who work on a range of human-environmental challenges that bridge social and natural sciences. ENVS is expanding and will start a new interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Fall 2025. Emory is in the city of Atlanta, which provides unique synergistic connections to other institutions. We seek a passionate, institution-builder to fill a tenured faculty position to expand the research expertise covered in the department. We also seek an individual who fosters collaboration within and across departments and programs at Emory University and beyond.

The ideal candidate should have a strong track record of extramurally funded research and leadership in climate science and related fields. In addition to actively researching and publishing, the candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and provide service to the department, college, university, and beyond. Qualification/Requirement

- A Ph.D. in Climate Science, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Geoscience, Hydrology, Earth System Sciences, Oceanography, Earth Sciences, or a related field.

- Experience equivalent to a tenured faculty position at an R1 university.

- Strong record of scholarship and research accomplishments demonstrated by publications in reputable and impactful peer-reviewed journals.

- Strong record of external research funding from various nationally or internationally recognized agencies.

- Proven excellence in teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate levels and/or effective communication skills in engaging a diversity of audiences.

- Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse academic environment.

- Strong record of collaboration with colleagues in diverse disciplines and ability and willingness to engage in practice-oriented scholarship and partnership with community, non-profits, and other non-academic sectors.

- Demonstrated leadership in advancing interdisciplinary and/or actionable climate research and education at local, regional, national, or international scales.
