Associate Director for Basic Cancer Research / Endowed Chair/Professorship

The UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, celebrating its 39th year as a leading center for cancer research, is recruiting outstanding basic science faculty who are working in the field of Cancer Biology, Oncology, DNA repair or Immunology at the Professor level to join the senor leadership team and drive recruitment and help oversee 7 established research programs and shared resources within the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center at the University of Pittsburgh.

 

We are currently recruiting for an Associate Director for Basic Research and Professor with tenure, eligible for an existing and fully funded endowed chair, to carry out senior leadership and cutting-edge cancer research. Candidates shall be an established, NCI-funded independent investigator with interdisciplinary translational research in any area of cancer biology, with significant high-impact publications, and extramural grant funding. The candidate will have a strong record in teaching and mentoring graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty members. The candidate should have a demonstrated accomplishments in an NCI-designated cancer center and commitment to collaborating with basic, clinical and translational scientists and have the necessary skills for leadership, recruiting, mentoring junior faculty. Successful candidates will have PhD, MD or equivalent and relevant NCI cancer center program leadership experience.

 

Located in the city of Pittsburgh (routinely ranked as one of the top most livable and affordable U.S. cities), Hillman (previously known as the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute) is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center with over 300 members; seven research programs in basic, translational, clinical, and population sciences; ten shared resources that receive funding from our NCI Cancer Center Support Grant https://hillmanresearch.upmc.edu/research/; and a 2022 institutional funding base of nearly $150 million. In 2022, the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine ranked #6 in overall NIH funding. Hillman Cancer Center serves a catchment area of 29 Western Pennsylvania counties and provides unique opportunities to collaborate with clinical and translational research programs involved in cancer patient care.
