The Arc Institute and the Department of Biomedical Data Science (DBDS) at Stanford University jointly seek an outstanding scientist to join the Arc Institute as a Core Investigator and the Department as Assistant Professor in the University Tenure Line. The successful candidates will be expected to contribute creatively and in depth to the analysis of biomedical data and their use to advance science and health. A PhD or equivalent degree in data science, biostatistics, statistics, biomedical informatics, clinical informatics, computer science, biomedical engineering or a related area is required.
For this joint position between DBDS and Arc, we are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in computational biology. The individual will hold a Stanford DBDS appointment with all rights and privileges afforded DBDS faculty. In addition, the Arc Core Investigator will have office and research space with the Arc Institute, and receive all rights and privileges afforded by the Arc Institute. For this joint appointment, DBDS and Arc are conducting independent search processes and candidates will be evaluated and selected by both committees. Two separate applications are required.

The Arc Institute is a new scientific institution that conducts curiosity-driven basic science and technology development to understand and treat complex human diseases. Headquartered in Palo Alto, California, Arc is an independent research organization founded on the belief that many important research programs will be enabled by new institutional models. With $650M in committed funding, the vision is to grow from 120 people currently to a team of 200-300 people in the next 2-3 years.
Core Investigator Role
Core Investigators are appointed for an eight-year renewable term and are employed by Arc Institute. Core Investigators are provided with no-strings-attached annual funding for a lab of 8-19 people as well as cutting-edge scientific and infrastructure support to enable high-risk, high-reward science. Core Investigators are employed by Arc and may have a faculty appointment at one of our university partners (in this case, Stanford University). It is typical for individuals appointed at the Assistant Professor level to have at least one to two years of post-PhD research experience; a demonstrated record of publications and research excellence in their field is required. Individuals who are authorized to work in the US as well as those who require visa sponsorship are eligible to apply.
The base salary range for this position is $175,000 to $227,000. These amounts reflect the range of base salary that the Institute reasonably would expect to pay a new hire or internal candidate for this position. The actual compensation paid to any individual for this position may vary depending on factors such as experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training, and skill level, and does not include bonuses, commissions, differential pay, other forms of compensation, or benefits.
