Job Description:
The Department of Microbiology at Weber State University invites applications for two tenure-track positions starting Fall 2024. We seek broadly trained candidates with passion for teaching microbiology. Areas of expertise could include microbial physiology, virulence and pathogenicity, global health, antimicrobial agents and antimicrobial resistance, food or water pathogens, emerging and reemerging diseases, and/or the human microbiome. The successful candidate will support the department's capacity to offer emphases in Medical Microbiology and Public and Environmental Health.
Job Duties:
These positions will be filled at the Assistant Professor level. Responsibilities include:
- Teaching undergraduate courses in general microbiology, microbial physiology, medical microbiology, public health, immunology, and areas of expertise. The typical teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester, including lower- and upper-division classes and labs.
- Establish and maintain a research program that involves mentorship of undergraduates. Please note that the Department of Microbiology does not have or support graduate students.
- Service to the department, university, and community. This may include academic advising of students.

- A Ph.D. in Microbiology or a closely related field, with applicable research experience. Candidates who expect to complete a Ph.D. by the beginning of the Fall 2024 semester will also be considered.
- Evidence of teaching experience.

- Research expertise that will complement existing strengths within the department.
- Postdoctoral experience.
- Ability to build connections within the University as well as local industries, government agencies, or community organizations.
- Successful at obtaining external funding sources to support scholarship and/or undergraduate research.
- Interest in using innovative, evidence-based teaching strategies.

The Department of Microbiology (www.weber.edu/microbiology) has over 200 microbiology undergraduate majors. The department is housed in a new science building opened in the Fall of 2016. We have three fully furnished BSL-2 teaching laboratories, a microbiology prep-lab, and several research laboratories. Students in microbiology study all areas of the microbial sciences and many proceed into professional or graduate programs. Most students participate in undergraduate research.
