About this role: This is an exciting opportunity to join the Oncology Translational Research (OTR) department at Novartis Biomedical Research in Cambridge, MA. OTR is a global laboratory-based research group, which supports the development of novel therapeutics in the Oncology Disease Area from early stages of target identification through proof-of-concept clinical trials. Key activities of our group include understanding target biology and epidemiology, therapeutic mechanisms of action, response/resistance mechanisms and biomarkers, indication selection and development of rational combination opportunities across a diversity of mechanisms of action and solid and liquid malignancies. This position is ideal for dedicated, motivated, and results-oriented individuals wishing to combine their interest in novel areas of cancer immunology with their strong desire to bridge exploratory research to early clinical trial design and bring observations from the clinic back to the laboratory.
We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative experienced PhD-level research investigator with demonstrated expertise in cancer immunology or immunology and a strong publication record to join a dynamic team.
Key Responsibilities:
• Support the development of biomarker strategies for Novartis’ early and late-stage cell and gene (i.e. CAR-T) portfolio.
• Lead forward and reverse translational research activities in the laboratory, manage external collaborations and support due diligence efforts.
• Supervise and develop BS/MS/PhD Scientists
• Work with individuals with diverse scientific and clinical perspectives in a collaborative environment.
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $166,400 and $249,600 / year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/23 through 12/31/23, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Minimum Requirements
Essential Requirements:
• This position will be located at the Cambridge, MA site and will not have the ability to be located remotely. This position will not require travel as defined by the business (domestic and/ or international).
• Ph.D. in immunology, cancer immunology or related field
• T cell expertise a plus
• Minimum 8-10 years of post-doctoral, academic and/or industrial experience in cancer and/or immunology research
• Experience with cell and gene therapy a plus
• Independent, self-motivated and track record of innovation
• Creativity, enthusiasm and excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills
• Demonstrated experience fostering a constructive culture to enable talent development while managing and leading team members
• Demonstrated experience with a breadth of immune, cellular, and molecular biological methods
Desirable Requirements:
• Experience in T cell biology, primary cell culture, immune cell assay techniques and/or in vivo immune models
