Research Group Leader
Starting Salary £58,451 - £80,000 per annum
MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK
The Division of Neurobiology of the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) wishes to recruit an outstanding scientist who will develop, with core funding, an independent research programme in any area of neurobiology, with an emphasis on molecular and cellular mechanisms. You should hold a PhD and have an excellent publication record with outstanding potential for independent research. Synergy with existing research programmes would be an advantage, but scientific excellence and the potential for major impact are paramount. Current research in the Division includes protein misfolding and assemblies in neurodegenerative diseases, mechanisms of synaptic transmission, as well as neural circuits (www2.mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk/NB/).
The LMB is a research institute dedicated to the understanding of important biological processes at the levels of atoms, molecules, cells and organisms. In doing so, we provide knowledge needed to solve key problems in human health.
Our scientists tackle fundamental, often difficult and long-term research problems. The LMB has made revolutionary contributions to science, such as pioneering X-ray crystallography and electron cryo-microscopy (cryo-EM) to determine protein structures, the sequencing of DNA and the development of monoclonal antibodies.
The LMB provides an unsurpassed environment for researchers. Scientists are drawn to the LMB from all over the world, thus creating a lively and international community for the exchange of ideas and innovation. There are four scientific Divisions - Structural Studies, Protein and Nucleic Acid Chemistry, Cell Biology and Neurobiology. Scientific collaborations between the different Divisions are extensive and scientists are well supported by excellent scientific facilities, by the LMB Operations Group and by core funding.
We actively support equality, diversity and inclusion in all our activities, processes and culture.
Informal enquiries can be made to Anne Bertolotti (aberto@mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk)
Additional information:
Appointments are made at Programme Leader-track level for those who demonstrate potential to develop into Programme Leaders within six years, or at Programme Leader level for those with substantial experience.
Submissions should include a covering letter and full CV, an outline of current research interests (1 page) and a proposal for a future research programme, which addresses an important problem in an innovative and creative way (up to 2 pages), along with the names and addresses of three referees who have agreed to be contacted prior to interview.
