Assistant Professor (tenure track) - Neurodegenerative/Infectious Diseases

This position will include a focus on applied, inter- and/or trans-disciplinary research with applications to computational biology, biochemistry molecular genetics, cell and organismal and/or structural biology, and will likely involve collaboration with research in computational/data science.
 

The primary mission of the OSU Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics is to provide a program of undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral education in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biophysics, and to conduct foundational research and scholarly activities focused on areas important to human health. The department offers BS degrees in Biochemistry and Biophysics and in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and has a rapidly growing student body of about 400 undergraduate majors. The Department offers MS and PhD degrees in Biochemistry and Biophysics, with a student body between 20 and 35 students.
 

To help accomplish the mission of the Department, the incumbent must have research expertise in the areas of neurodegenerative and/or infectious diseases at the intersection of biochemistry, biophysics, molecular and cellular biology, or computational biology. The incumbent will preferably have post-doc or equivalent experience and a research program that includes a focus on applied, inter- and/or trans-disciplinary research and a potential for collaboration with researchers in computational/data science. The incumbent will preferably have a research program that would complement existing research in the Linus Pauling Institute (https://lpi.oregonstate.edu/about/about-linus-pauling-institute). The Linus Pauling Institute’s mission is to promote optimal health through cutting-edge research and trusted public outreach. For the past 25 years, the Institute has thrived as one of the University’s Research Centers and Institutes. Supported by gifts from individuals, private corporations, and foundations, it also has support from research grants (from private and federal agencies such as the National Institutes of Health) and continuing support from OSU.
 

The incumbent will also leverage OSU core facilities such as the NMR, electrophysiology, mass spectrometry, microscopy, and cell culture facilities (see https://science.oregonstate.edu/research/centers-and-facilities). The incumbent will have the opportunity to teach in diverse department curricular courses including biochemistry, biophysics, molecular genetics, cell and organismal, neuroscience, computational biology and/or structural biology.
