Department Chair – Oral Biology at the State University of New York at Buffalo
The University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine (SDM) invites qualified applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Oral Biology. The SDM is a leading oral health research institution and home to the nation's first academic department focused on oral health research. Now in its seventh decade, our PhD training program has yielded an impressive cohort of accomplished scholars who have made numerous important contributions to oral health research. We seek a leader who will provide vision and focus to build upon a strong team to advance the mission of the department and school.
Responsibilities for the department include predoctoral and postdoctoral education, service activities, and research. As the flagship research department for research within the SDM, the preferred candidate will possess national/international prominence, a track record of significant extramural funding and scholarship, demonstrated leadership skills, and success in communicating with a diverse cadre of faculty, staff and students to develop and achieve a vision for growth.
The Chair, who reports directly to the Dean of the SDM, will provide leadership in strategic planning, management of research and administrative budgeting and financial activities of the department, curriculum management and oversight of all teaching, mentoring and faculty development for promotion and tenure, supervision of department staff, students, and research fellows; and will represent the department at internal and external meetings.
The full-time appointment will be at the rank of Professor (HS) and tenure eligible. A PhD or DMD/DDS or MD is required. A record of significant extramural research funding to study oral/craniofacial diseases is strongly preferred. UB, a Carnegie R1 research university, has a strong record of research funding, totaling $428 million in annual research spending and development in FY23. The SDM has consistently ranked among the top tier in NIH/NIDCR funding. The SDM offers an outstanding work environment and enjoys a strong tradition of collaborative research with several schools and colleges at the University at Buffalo and closely located Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The University at Buffalo is part of the State University of New York with an excellent fringe benefit package and an opportunity for faculty practice. Applicants should submit a letter of interest, a CV, and names and contact information for three references through the UB Jobs online applicant link: https://www.ubjobs.buffalo.edu/postings/45094.
Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis beginning November 15, 2023, until the position is filled. Questions may be directed to Keith L. Kirkwood, DDS, PhD, Search Committee Chair, at klkirk@buffalo.edu.
University at Buffalo is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer and, in keeping with our commitment, welcomes all to apply including veterans and individuals with disabilities.
