Open Rank Faculty Position in the Department of Chemical Engineering

The Department of Chemical Engineering at Stanford University seeks applicants for an open-rank faculty position. The appointment may be at the rank of Assistant Professor (on the tenure track), Associate Professor (with or without tenure), or Full Professor. Applicants are expected to have earned a Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering or a related discipline.

We are open to broad research areas in chemical engineering and related fields. We prioritize the originality and promise of the candidate’s work rather than the sub-area of specialization. We encourage candidates interested in environmental sciences, energy sciences, and applied life sciences to apply. Particular areas of interest include fluid mechanics and transport phenomena (experimental or theoretical), computational catalysis and materials engineering (physics-based modeling, data science, and machine learning), and environmental engineering (separation membranes and technologies applied to, e.g., carbon capture or water purification). The successful candidates are expected to teach core courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, develop advanced courses in a research specialty, and establish a world-class research program emphasizing integrating fundamental principles with chemical, physical, or biological engineering.

Interdisciplinary teaching and research efforts are highly valued in our search. We anticipate that the successful candidate will initiate, develop, or contribute to the interactions among faculty in Chemical Engineering and other departments within the School of Engineering (Materials Science and Engineering, Bioengineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, etc.). Furthermore, we anticipate potential involvement in Stanford Data Science, School of Humanities and Sciences, Doerr School of Sustainability, as well as School of Medicine.

The Chemical Engineering Department, School of Engineering, and Stanford University value faculty who will help foster an inclusive academic environment for colleagues, students, and staff with a wide range of backgrounds, identities, and outlooks. Candidates may choose to include as part of their research and teaching statements a brief discussion about how their work and experience will further these ideals. Additional information about Stanford's IDEAL initiative may be found here: https://ideal.stanford.edu/about-ideal/diversity-statement.

Applicants are required to provide:

  •  a 1-page cover letter
  • CV (including research accomplishments, teaching experience, and publications)
  • a detailed research statement (no more than 3 pages)
  • teaching plan (1 page)
  • at least three (3) references

Review of applications will begin on Monday, 10/23/2023, for the applicants who will present at the 2023 AIChE Annual Meeting, and Monday, 11/20/2023, is the final deadline for all applicants. To guarantee full consideration, your application should be submitted by these dates.

Please apply online at https://facultypositions.stanford.edu/en-us/listing/.
