The Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Molecular Genetics at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (NJMS), part of the Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS), is recruiting tenure-track faculty (Assistant, Associate, or full Professor) in all aspects of biology, including research in the areas of structural biology, microbial pathogenesis, molecular genetics, microbiology, and biochemistry. Recruited faculty are expected to establish an innovative, independent, and collaborative research program that complements and continues to expand programs in basic and translational research at RBHS. Interdisciplinary approaches will be fostered in part by joint appointments within the Center for Immunity and Inflammation (CII), the Center for Cell Signaling (CCS), at Rutgers-NJMS, and Institute for Quantitative Biomedicine at Rutgers University (iQB@R). Candidates are expected to contribute to the Medical School and Graduate School teaching programs in their area of expertise. The department is housed in the International Center for Public Health (ICPH), along with the Public Health Research Institute (PHRI) and the Center for Emerging Pathogens. Rutgers New Jersey Medical School is located in Newark, New Jersey, 20 min away from New York City.

The position(s) will be supported by a competitive start-up package. Exceptional candidates will be considered for further support as Chancellor Scholars.

A new Cryo-EM suite, located within the Department, is equipped with a 100kV Tundra microscope and speed-enhanced Ceta-F camera, and a Vitrobot Mark IV for sample preparation. In addition, we have access to additional Rutgers Cryo-EM and Cryo-ET instrumentation, including a 200kV Talos Arctica microscope, an Aquilos 2 FIB-SEM microscope, and a Leica Cryo-CLEM system located on the Rutgers-Piscataway, NJ campus.

Qualified candidates must have a doctoral degree (MD, PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent), outstanding academic credentials, and have completed competitive postdoctoral training with a strong publication history in the areas of structural biology, microbial pathogenesis, molecular genetics, microbiology, or biochemistry. In addition, applicants must have demonstrated potential to obtain extramural funding for basic or translational research. Rank will be commensurate with experience. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply. The recently announced extension of the Rutgers Faculty Diversity Hiring Initiative highlights Rutgers’ financial commitment to attracting and retaining a world-class faculty that embodies our dedication to diversity and inclusion.

All applications should be submitted via the Rutgers University position posting #22FA0550. In addition, please also submit, in a single PDF file, (1) A one-page cover letter (2) curriculum vitae, and (3) a statement of current and proposed research (three-page maximum) to Dr. Vivian Bellofatto, Professor and Department Chair via email address: microbio@njms.rutgers.edu
