Joint Open Rank Tenure-Track Faculty Positions –AI/ML for Cell Biology

The Duke University Departments of Cell Biology and Biostatistics and Bioinformatics jointly invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position  in the areas of large language models and other deep neural networks for biology. Successful candidates will have a strong interest in developing new algorithms and methods motivated by biological research in the areas of cell biology, developmental biology, neuroscience, and regenerative biology. Example application areas include foundation models for protein design or single-cell data, or other AI/ML approaches for spatial, multi-omic, genomic and proteomic data sets, biological imaging, or multiscale modeling. Particular attractions of this position include a generous startup package and benefits, a joint appointment in both departments and outstanding data and translational opportunities across Duke University.  Duke has an exceptional history in biomedical research innovation that includes data science. Durham and the Research Triangle form a vibrant community with an outstanding climate intellectually, culturally, and for year-round physical activity and recreation. We strongly support an inclusive environment that is committed to the diversification of our faculty ranks.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in biomedical research or computer science-related fields relevant to this search. Successful candidates will have track records of creativity and productivity, a desire to integrate into our exciting, collaborative, and growing community, and a dedication to contributing to our values of diversity and openness. They will be expected to mount a productive and innovative research program, obtain outside funding, and participate actively in graduate and post-graduate training and mentorship. The application package should include a cover letter accompanied by a one-page diversity statement, a curriculum vitae, a three-page statement of research (organized as a one-page summary of past research accomplishments and a two-page summary of your future research plans), and 3 letters of recommendation. All applications should be submitted through: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/25387

Diversity and Inclusion: Duke University is an Equal Opportunity Affirmative Action Employer. Candidates with backgrounds underrepresented in science are especially encouraged to apply. The diversity statement should address why the candidate believes diversity and inclusion are important, with examples from their experiences and plans for future contributions.
