Description: The Center for Perinatal Research at the Abigail Wexner Research Institute (AWRI) at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH) seeks outstanding candidates for recruitment at the assistant, associate, or full professor rank with a research program focused on neonatal or pediatric pulmonary disease and/or relevant basic science areas. Scientific areas of particular interest include lung development, respiratory distress syndrome, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, cystic fibrosis, asthma, or primary ciliary dyskinesia.
New faculty members will be expected to be active participants in advancing the care of patients with lung disorders by establishing an impactful and independent research program supported by extramural funding, developing basic and translational scientific collaborations, providing mentorship to colleagues, training the next generation of researchers, and participating in Center and Institute activities. The successful candidate should have an MD, MD/PhD, PhD, or equivalent degree.
Candidates will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in the Center for Perinatal Research, other AWRI researchers, and investigators at The Ohio State University. Topics of focus include bronchopulmonary dysplasia, lung inflammation, asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, and cystic fibrosis. Interested candidates will be invited to join the Cure CF Columbus Research and Development Program (C3 RDP, https://www.curecfcolumbus.org/), a joint program of researchers from Nationwide Children’s and Ohio State University.
Faculty in the Center for Perinatal Research are supported by the Institute for Genomic Medicine and scientific cores including the Animal Resources Core, the Histopathology and Microscopy Cores, IT Research and Innovation, the Biopathology Center Processing and Banking Core, and a CRISPR/Gene Editing core. There are opportunities to collaborate with clinical faculty at NCH Divisions, most notably Neonatology, Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine, and Allergy and Immunology, for translational and clinical research. The Office of Technology Commercialization facilitates the transfer of new technologies, research and innovation while in-house expertise in regulatory affairs is provided through the Office of Research Regulatory Affairs, and expertise in development of investigator-initiated clinical studies is provided by Clinical Research Services. Center investigators have full access to all scientific cores available at Ohio State University, including proteomics, metabolomics, and advanced microscopy.
The Abigail Wexner Research Institute is ranked sixth nationally in NIH funding to free-standing children’s hospitals. Research programs are organized into multidisciplinary Centers of Emphasis structured to encourage collaboration, facilitate team science, and foster creativity.
Ranked sixth among children’s hospitals on U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals Honor Roll,” and ranked 3rd on U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals for Pulmonology and Lung Surgery,” Nationwide Children’s is one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit freestanding pediatric health care networks providing wellness, preventive, diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitative care for infants, children, and adolescents, as well as adult patients with congenital disease.
Principal investigators are also faculty members at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and most are members of the Ohio State University, Department of Pediatrics, and graduate programs at the university. Collaborators at Ohio State include members of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine and members of the Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute. The opportunity to train PhD or MD/PhD students is provided by Ohio State University graduate programs.
