The Division of Medical Physics in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Stanford University seeks a Ph.D. to join the Department as an Assistant Professor in the University Tenure Line (UTL) or the Non-Tenure Research Line (NTRL). We are particularly interested in candidates who have committed to developing a premier academic program focused on artificial intelligence (AI) applications in biomedical physics (BMP) to bridge the gap between BMP and cancer biology and therapeutics. Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. and postdoc, with research in medical physics, engineering, bioinformatics, or related disciplines. Ideal applicants will have experience in AI, medical imaging and physics, or bioinformatics.

Applicants must have an interest in leading an independent research program and have the desire to closely collaborate with other investigators in the Division, Department, and across Stanford campus. Ideally, the successful applicant will spend most of the time on their independent research program and approximately 20% on collaborating with members of the Division and Department to support the needs of translational AI research. The ideal candidate will have potential trajectory and/or demonstrated breadth of preparation, as exemplified by significant research experience. While applicants are not expected to have had previous funding, with time the successful candidate will be expected to obtain substantial grant funding (e.g., NIH award(s)) to support a sustainable AI research program. The successful candidate will have the support of the Department and to that end, will have access to Department resources, research mentoring, and a wide array of professional development training opportunities.

The predominant criterion for appointment in the University Tenure Line is a major commitment to research and teaching. The major criterion for appointment for faculty in the Non-tenure Line (Research) is evidence of high-level performance as a researcher for whose special knowledge a programmatic need exists. Faculty rank and line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

The activities of the Division/Department are diverse and include a strong basic science and translational research programs. The Department is tightly integrated into the medical school and university and leads a Radiation Biology research program within the Stanford Cancer Institute, a National Cancer Institute Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. Assistant Professor: $185K – 203K

Associate Professor: $218K – 242K

Professor: $266K – 366K

This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It may not include all components of faculty compensation or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
