The Gregor Mendel Institute (GMI) has a Junior Group Leader position available. We seek researchers who help further our goal of making fundamental discoveries that help us understand how plants and other autotrophic organisms function (broadly defined). We believe in enabling researchers at all levels to pursue big questions in an intellectually stimulating, diverse, and collaborative environment. Key to our success is minimal hierarchy and bureaucracy, outstanding facilities, and core funding.
Junior Group Leaders have up to 8-year non-renewable appointments, and candidates are expected to be postdocs looking to start their own research group. All group leaders enjoy complete intellectual freedom to pursue whatever questions fascinate them, and generous core funding at the ERC level. There are no teaching obligations, but there are teaching opportunities.
The GMI is part of the Vienna BioCenter, one of Europe’s leading life-sciences research locations, with over 1,700 researchers from at least 70 countries, organized into a broad spectrum of research institutes, universities, and companies. The campus is located near the center of Vienna, one of the world’s most liveable cities. The working language is English, and the environment is family-friendly, with subsidized on-campus child-care facilities.
Please send your CV, a letter of motivation and a brief description of your research program (no more than two pages) to recruitment@gmi.oeaw.ac.at.
Informal inquiries can be directed to any GMI group leader.
For full consideration, apply by October 20, 2023.
