School of Biomedical Engineering, Hainan University
Hainan University School of Biomedical Engineering(hereinafter referred to as “HNUBME”) was established in January 2020. HNUBME leverages the benefits of cross-disciplinary hybridity to not only attract a high-caliber faculty team in research and education, but also with the top biomedical engineering professionals, striving to build a distinctive and world-class biomedical engineering discipline in China.
Aiming at strategic frontier topics in life science and key engineering technologies,HNUBME putshuman resources development and scientific research at the forefront, in the meanwhile, benefit the society by providing public services in biomedical imaging, digital life, biomedical health data, biomedical sensing and detection, and medical testing.
Academic & Research Platforms: In just two years of its establishment, HNUBME has completed the construction of several academic and research platforms, including the National Institute of Health Data Science co-established with the Chinese Medical Information and Big Data Association; the Hainan University Biomedical Research Institute co-established with Haikou People's Hospital to meet clinical needs; the Hainan Branch of Huazhong University of Science and Technology Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics; and joint laboratories co-established with Huawei and other well-known Chinese enterprises. Such platforms not only provide adequate resources for educational and training purposes, but also serve society well with clinical significance. In September 2020, the Development and Reform Commission of Hainan Province approved the feasibility report of Hainan University's Biomedical and Health Research Center project(hereafter referred to as “the Center”, which would cover an area of 51,615 square meters, and in November 2020, Hainan University established the Sanya Institute,which was jointly established by the People’s Government of Sanya City and Yazhou Bay Sci-Tech City Bureau, mainly focusing on commercialization of Scientific and Technological achievements. The Center will have a bioimaging platform, a digital life and biomedical health data center, a biosensing and wearable medical device platform, an organoid research platform, a teaching and training center, a science and technology achievement commercialization platform, and a non-human primate research base.We strive to create a national top level R&D platform for interdisciplinary applications.
Faculty development: The School has brought onboard many top scholars and experts in biomedical engineering from other top-rated universities as visiting professors. Centering on the specialty and best disciplines, the School plans to have a faculty of 160 full-time members ,led by 40 academic leaders.
