Introduction to the Sanya Science and Education Innovation Park of Wuhan University of Technology

Aiming to follow the guidance of the speech delivered by president Xi Jinping on April 13th, 2018 and the No.12 central document—Guidelines on Supporting Hainan in Furthering All-Round Reform and Opening up, serve national strategies, establish the China (Hainan) Free Trade Port, and respond to the strategy of the Ministry of Education—innovative experiments of education in Xiongan New Area, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Yangtze River Delta, and Hainan Pilot Free Trade Zone, and in central and west China and for the Belt and Road Initiative, Wuhan University of Technology (WUT) signed the tripartite agreement with the People's Government of Sanya City and China Merchants Hainan Development and Investment Co. in August 2019 on the basis of the strategic cooperation agreement signed by WUT and the People’s Government of Hainan Province in a bid to jointly establish Sanya Science and Education Innovation Park of Wuhan University of Technology (hereinafter referred to as “the Park”). In November of the same year, the Park was registered as a legal entity in Sanya, and located in the Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City.

Thanks to the bountiful resources, advantageous geographical location, and policy support of Sanya, and the interdisciplinary edges combining materials science, transportation, civil engineering, information engineering and design, and talents from WUT, the Park, in the spirit of “sound in morality, broad in learning and pursuing excellence” and with the intention to promote the development of Hainan Free Trade Port, has established an integrated demonstration zone for science and education in Sanya, focusing on six centers for teaching and scientific research, namely, the Center of Marine Construction Material and Civil Engineering, the Center of Advanced Marine Material, Equipment and Technology, the Center of Green Ship & Ocean Equipment and Smart Port and Shipping, the Center of Ocean Engineering and Environmental Big Data, the Center of Cruise & Yacht and Cultural Creative Design and the Center of Science in the South China Sea. By doing so, it aims to build a platform for deep-sea technology innovation and incubating scientific and technological achievements through coordination between industry and education, global communities, universities, teams and different cultures. Thus, an innovative scientific research institute that integrates talents cultivation, application of scientific and technological advances and industrial incubation will be formulated in order to attract more scientific research teams, bring more projects and produce more achievements for Sanya, cultivating high-level talents for both the national and regional economic development and providing supports with scientific innovation and their wisdom.

A total of 21 teaching and research teams are built with 438 members. And three of them, namely the Port Logistics Engineering team of WUT led by Professor Xiao Hanbin, the Blockchain in Logistics and Key Technology of IoV (Internet of Vehicles) team led by Professor Xiong Shengwu, and the Civil Engineering and Protection of Reefs team led by Professor Li Xinping, have been rated as the first batch of “Hainan Excellent Talent Teams”.

The Park has enrolled 913 postgraduates of Hainan special program including 760 master students and 153 doctoral students who will be cultivated in the Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City.

Following the idea of “cultivating people with scientific research,” the Park has promoted the integration of big platforms and projects. By the end of 2022, laboratories, covering a total area of 36,000 square meters, were built up with research instruments and equipment worth 700 million RMB; and some labs have already been put into use. In addition, 73 scientific research projects have been approved with over 60 million RMB for funds. An open fund has been set up, which funded 134 projects with 15.48 million RMB in three years. And it also has introduced and incubated 16 enterprises. The “Platform for Key Technology Innovation and Application of IoV” has been selected as the demonstration program in the 2020-2021 Innovation of Key Technologies and Platforms for Internet of Things List released by the Ministry of Industry and Technology.

The Park adheres to promoting development with its own advantages, and strives to make contributions to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the establishment of Hainan Free Trade Port with the wisdom and efforts of WUT.

4.Salaries and Benefits

 

a）Pre-taxed annual salary: competitive salary matching with qualifications and experience, no less than 250,000 RMB for professional scientific research post; about 400,000-500,000 RMB for backbone scientific research post (salary negotiable).

b） If qualified, a professional scientific research staffing of WUT (equivalent to the staffing of government-affiliated institutions) will be awarded.
