Division Chief, Experimental Pathology

Case Western Reserve University / University Hospitals

The Department of Pathology at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and University Hospitals (UH) is seeking an accomplished and innovative scientist with academic leadership experience to join our department as the Division Chief of Experimental Pathology, a basic science division of our department in the School of Medicine. It is preferred but not required that this individual has scientific research in one of our strategic research areas (immunology, cancer or neurodegenerative diseases). This position will have leadership responsibility to develop research programs in all of our strategic research areas, including faculty recruitment, development and oversight (including direct report of the faculty), as well as responsibility to develop programs with strategic partners (Case Comprehensive Cancer Center, Cleveland Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center and others).

The Division includes 34 faculty with cutting-edge research programs. The Department is in the top 13 Pathology Departments in the U.S. for NIH funding. The PhD program has over 60 students and three constituent training programs (Immunology, Cancer, Molecular and Cellular Basis of Disease), each of which has an associated NIH T32 training grant, as well as two MS programs, a Pathology residency, and five clinical fellowship programs.

Candidates must hold a PhD, MD or MD-PhD with a strong NIH-funded research program and a record of academic leadership. Academic accomplishment should be consistent with appointment as Associate Professor or Professor (with national or international professional recognition).

You will need to submit a cover letter, CV, statement of research interests, statement of leadership record and goals, a diversity and equity statement, and names of 3 referees. The diversity and equity statement (approximately 1/2 page) should explain how their research, teaching, and/or service have contributed to diversity, equity, and inclusion within their scholarly field(s) and/or how their individual and/or collaborative efforts have promoted structural justice inside and outside institutions of higher learning. This statement should reflect on how the candidate’s continued efforts will foster a culture of diversity, pluralism, and individual difference at CWRU and UH into the future.

In employment and education, CWRU and UH are committed to Equal Opportunity and Diversity. Women, veterans, members of underrepresented minority groups, and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply.  CWRU provides reasonable accommodations to applicants with disabilities (contact the Office of Inclusion, Diversity and Equal Opportunity at 216-368-8877 to request an accommodation at any point in the application and hiring process; determinations will be made on a case-by-case basis).

As our society grapples with the history, legacy and persistence of entrenched racism and its impact on communities of color, we reaffirm our mission to expand opportunities for underrepresented groups; provide a multifaceted education for our trainees; foster a culture of diversity, pluralism and recognition of individual difference; and realize our ideals within the university and in the larger world.
