Summary

The GARP Research Associate will assist in the operation of the laboratory by performing specialized tasks involving genomic profiling technologies including Next-Generation Sequencing. The position is responsible for the operation of various instruments and for sample processing. The RA interacts with various research areas including clinical applications by providing genomic profiling expertise to augment ongoing research.

Job Duties

  • Perform genomic and transcriptomic profiling related duties including NGS library construction.
  • Perform assays such as whole exome sequencing and RNA-seq.
  • Operate and maintain NGS sequencers.
  • Operate Illumina and Oxford Nanopore NGS platforms.
  • Perform nucleic acid extraction and purification - use commercial kits and custom protocols to purify DNA/RNA for downstream NGS applications.
  • Develop and maintain lab protocols and actively participate in improving protocols.
  • Work synergistically with peers from your own and other groups.
  • Train co-workers in the proper use of instrumentation, protocols, and software.
  • Organize and prioritize work to ensure on-time delivery of results.
  • Interpret results for validity and scientific meaning.
  • Present scientific results clearly in written and oral format.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Basic Science or a related field. Experience in lieu of degree will not be accepted.
  • Three years of relevant experience typically as a Research Assistant, Research Technician or Postdoctoral Fellow/Associate.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with liquid handlers highly desired.
  • Experience with nucleic acid purification highly desired.
  • Experience with NGS highly desired.
  • Strong experience with basic molecular biology techniques (e.g. PCR, capillary electrophoresis) required.
