Job Details

The Department of Molecular and Cellular Oncology (MCO) mission is to enable and apply basic research excellence to contribute to ending cancer significantly. The department's oncology-driven research focuses on fundamental mechanistic discoveries and their translation to humans. As a basic science department at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, MCO strives to enhance basic research excellence by establishing a robust research group focused on the molecular and cellular aspects of cancer research, particularly in signaling pathways and crosstalk between tumor and tumor microenvironment in tumor initiation, progression and metastasis, and resistance to various therapies. MCO hosts MD Anderson's Functional Genomics Core with the support of the Cancer Center Supporting Grant (CCSG). In addition, MCO faculty are core members of the Cancer Biology and Metastasis Program of CCSG, rated "exceptional" in the last competing renewal.

MOLECULAR & CELLULAR ONCOLOGY

KEY FUNCTIONS
  • Conducts Research Experiments and Projects
    • Conducts research projects with supervision; which may include procurement and processing blood, isolating DNA/RNA, PCR/QPCR., perform biospecimen assays.
    • Discusses project stages and present findings in lab meetings.
    • Prepares final reports and submits to PI for publications, grants, or protocols.
    • Shows willingness to learn and help others implement new techniques.
  • Operates Laboratory Apparatus and Equipment
    • Learns equipment and relevant software needed to carry out experiments and general laboratory maintaining/cleaning.
  • Data Gathering and Analysis
    • Uses computer software efficiently for accurate data acquisition, analysis, reporting, and presentation. Accurately records and evaluates data in accordance with methods requested. Maintains inventories, keeping precise, timely and accurate records.
  • General Laboratory Duties
    • Prepares reagent stocks as directed by supervisor and postdoc fellows.
    • Assumes shared responsibility for general laboratory maintenance by:
      • Maintaining procedures and protocols that ensure the quality and integrity of procedures performed
      • Monitoring workflow as it pertains to the need for supplies, equipment maintenance, and preparation of stock solutions
      • Keeping ample stock of supplies on hand
      • Following up on orders to ensure organization and accessibility of all reagents.
    • Performs laboratory safety and provides general lab support as needed.


Education

Required: Bachelor's degree, major course work in one of the basic sciences.
