SUMMARY

The primary responsibility is perform technical laboratory duties and carry out projects in accordance with our specific research. The primary goal of our research is to understand the mechanisms regulating epithelial tissue homeostasis and how disruptions promote pathogenesis and cancer using zebrafish and cultured cells. We use time-lapse confocal microscopy coupled with various genetic approaches to identify molecular components regulating epithelial cellular processes such as cell detachment, migration and proliferation.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with zebrafish (or other aquatic organisms) or experience working with cultured cells.

KEY FUNCTIONS

· Assists principal investigator with scientific research projects focused on understanding the role of cell extrusion in epithelial tissue homeostasis and tumorigenesis.

· Functions in a separate and independent manner in the design and initiation of research experiments. These experiments include, but are not limited to, assessment of potentially altered homeostatic mechanisms using zebrafish with chemical and genetic perturbations, immunohistochemistry, gene expression, and other approaches.

· Adapts or designs equipment used in experiments or research to obtain desired results.

· Develops new analytical approaches to visualize the resulting data.

· Determines specific goals or objectives to be obtained, evaluates research data and develops and revises techniques or approaches to issues that arise.

· Plans training and research work activity for assigned laboratory and research personnel.

· Supervises the use of laboratory equipment and implements safety procedures.

· Compiles, writes and submits project results to superior.

· Assists principal investigator in research proposal development.

· Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

Preferred: Master's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

EXPERIENCE

Required: Five years of experience in scientific or experimental research work. With preferred degree, three years of required experience.

Preferred: Experience working with either zebrafish (or other aquatic organisms) or cultured cells.
