The primary purpose of the Research Scientist position is to plan, organize, coordinate, direct and participate in scientific research projects. Assigns and reviews work of subordinates, determines specific goals or objectives to be attained, evaluates resulting research data and revises techniques or approaches to work problems. Supervises the design, development or adapting of equipment used in experiments or research to obtain desired results. Compiles, writes and submits reports to superior. Plans and supervises the training of technicians and other laboratory personnel with respect to proper laboratory techniques, the use of laboratory equipment and safety procedures.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIESResearch Projects Analysis and Collaborations Plans, organizes, coordinates and participates in research projects under the direction of PI. Functions in an independent manner in the design and initiation of research experiments. Utilize initiative and inventive skills in planning and executing the details of experiments. Prepare manuscripts for scientific publications.
Laboratory Analysis of experimental tumor models
Perform laboratory analysis of gene and protein expression on experimental tumor models, and serum/plasma samples by immunohistochemical staining, PCR, immunofluorescence staining, gene and protein expression transcriptomics, tissue culture and cell based assays and other required biochemical analysis. Perform in vitro and in vivo studies on experimental therapeutics.
Perform CRISPR-Cas9 mediated genome editing at a single gene or genome scale basis and run CRISPR-Cas9 mediated chemo-genetic screens.
Performs global metabolomics assays. Measures levels of metabolites in cells and tumor models.
Performs detailed biochemical and cell biological mechanistic studies using in vitro and in vivo model systems, and applying genetic and pharmacologic tools to understanding mode of action of novel therapeutics
Coordinate intramural and extramural collaborating research activities. Assist in the preparation of grant applications, especially, in performing experiments for collecting preliminary data. Present findings of research projects to professional groups and prepares scientific documents and manuscripts for publication.
