Purpose of the Role:

The Technology and User Services (TUS) group in NX is driven to help users use tools effectively to improve productivity and foster innovation. We deliver excellence in technology and support services to enable a secure and frictionless digital user experience. Our organization is here providing the technology backbone and devices that enable users to work in an office, lab or mobile environment.

Major Accountabilities:

As a Senior Lab IT Engineer, you deliver excellence in technology and support services to NIBR Laboratories in order to enable a secure, frictionless, digital user experience.

You will be responsible for providing support to the lab computing environment which demands uninterrupted service in a state-of-the-art biomedical research center. Specific emphasis of the role includes building specialized computing platforms, installing and configuring scientific applications, and customizing system configurations to meet and exceed scientific demands.

• Build new PCs and workstations to custom specifications, integrate the hardware, install and configure the operating software and ensure visibility to the network in accordance with the Novartis Standards and security guidelines
• Manage and execute local projects, define and implement processes, tools and templates and ensure best methodology is used to reduce the impact on scientist’s daily work
• Manage and execute lab equipment integration, influence vendors and ensure best and compliant model is applied to satisfy business and Novartis needs.
• Work directly with the scientists to understand their lab processes, data flow, infrastructure and research data in order to identify their informatics needs.
• Demonstrate an appropriate awareness of the service amongst the user community.
• Provide business analysis and high-level technical expertise for the planning and definition of requirements, implementation and delivery phases of lab related IT projects.
• Lab Application Support and Service management for Research Scientific Laboratory Systems.
• Create, track and close service tickets while delivering an excellent customer service experience with professionalism and confidence.
• Accountable to ensure adherence to quality standards as defined by NIBR Informatics organization.
• Integrate, manage and maintain complex instruments.
• Ensure adherence to Novartis global Information Security and Quality standards and policies for all products/services.
• If applicable, ensure Regulatory Compliance (e.g. GLP & GCP) standards and policies for GxP products/services.

Minimum Requirements

Experience Requirements (Core Skills and Capabilities):

• Degree in computer science or equivalent work experience
• Experience in Roche Diagnostics solutions like Cobas and Ventana
• At least 8 years of progressive experience with hands on troubleshooting and support for Windows (Win7/Win10) systems.
• Experience in Biotech or Biopharma as it relates to scientific instrumentation/vendors, software applications and systems.
• Experience working with chromatography instruments (Empower, Chemstation, Chromeleon), plate readers, mass specs, liquid handlers, gene sequencers, purification systems, imaging instruments (Aperio, In-Cells, Microscopes, Bia-Core etc..).
• Experience working with Formulatrix Rock Imager and Rock Maker (Automated systems of Protein Crystallization Imagers).
• Experience working with endpoint management software such as Altiris and Symantec.
• Strong customer service attitude and solution orientation with ability to respond to changing needs and priorities quickly and efficiently.
• Exceptional troubleshooting skills and experience supporting nonstandard software.
• Scripting and/or programming experience with PowerShell and SQL.
• Experience in networking label printers and integrate them into workflow.
• Experience in Data harmonization, processing and reprocessing workflows
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to peers, executives, customers and junior staff.
