The Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease Area (CVM) at the Novartis Institutes of BioMedical Research (NIBR) is committed to discovering transformative medicines to treat cardiovascular and metabolic disorders that will change this alarming statistic.

We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join our Systems Biology group in CVM. We conceive, develop, validate and employ biochemical and cell biology tools to evaluate and develop new therapeutics against a range of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.

What you will be doing (key responsibilities):
-Design and execute cell-based assays
-Support target validation, mechanism-of-action, and drug discovery projects
-Conduct data analyses and documentation of -experiments
-Collaborate while working in a matrix environment to support drug discovery projects
-Keep good laboratory, data recording and data documentation practices
-Present results in lab and department meetings

Minimum Requirements

What you will bring to the role:
-MS degree plus 3 or more years of experience or a recent PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, bioengineering or related life science field
-High proficiency with fundamental experimental methods is a must (e.g. tissue culture, qPCR, western blotting)
-Fluorescence and confocal microscopy skills a plus
-Experience with human iPS cell derived model systems a plus
-Expertise in advanced molecular biology applications, CRISPR engineering, or reporter systems a plus
-Knowledge of cardiovascular biology and related experimental approaches a plus
-Ability to quickly grasp new techniques and focus on detail
-Basic knowledge of statistics and computational data -analyses skills
-Excellent team player, who demonstrates good communication skills, creative problem-solving capabilities, and enjoys working in a collaborative environment
-Strong written, oral, and record keeping skills
-Flexibility and aptitude for learning, with a passion to drive groundbreaking science

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $102,400 and $153,600/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/23 through 12/31/23, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
