The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at LSU Health Sciences Center – New Orleans invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor who will contribute to the teaching and research missions of the Department. Applicants for this position must exhibit a high degree of professional excellence characterized by sound independent judgment, reliability, initiative, flexibility, and a high standard of ethics.

Interested applicants must also have the ability to immediately teach Biochemistry to medical and graduate students. Applicants must display a willingness to be mentored in, and teach, biochemistry to all levels of students in the health professions. Teaching duties may be assigned within the multiple health professional schools of the LSU Health Sciences Center (Medicine, Dentistry, Allied Health, Nursing and Graduate). We are looking for a dedicated educator. Successful candidates will also be expected to participate in scholarly educational research, or biomedical research. Expertise in all areas of biochemistry or molecular biology will be considered, but special consideration will be given to those that complement the existing research strengths of the department, which include cell regulation, cancer biology, structural biochemistry, metabolic host-pathogen interactions, interferon-stimulated gene 15 (ISG15), traumatic brain injury, and neurodegenerative disorders.

This position will also work under the general supervision of the LSUHSC Proteomics Core Director and should have expertise/knowledge of molecular biology, biochemistry, and macromolecular analysis techniques for proteomics. The applicant will be responsible for contributing to the operation of the proteomics laboratory, mass spectrometry analyses, method and sample development, facility and instrument operations and maintenance, and all associated transactions and reporting. Incumbent will also collaborate with faculty and other proteomics users; provide consultation regarding design, implementation and analysis stages; and maintain and/or develop/implement accurate documentation of methods, results and data for research projects.

Qualifications: Ph.D. and/or M.D.
