One postdoc position is available in Dr. Limei Zhang’s group at the Department of Biochemistry and Redox Biology Center, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, for highly motivated candidates who are interested in structural biology, redox biology and infectious disease. The position will offer a competitive salary and benefits.

Zhang Group: With funding support from both NIH and NSF, the Zhang Group applies a suite of interdisciplinary tools to investigate the structure-mechanism relationships of metalloproteins in redox reactions, stress responses and antibiotic resistance. For more information about the Zhang Group, please visit the website: https://biochem.unl.edu/limei-zhang.

Job responsibilities: The postdoctoral fellow is expected to independently design and conduct high-quality research experiments for the assigned project under the supervisor’s guidance; analyze data and draft manuscripts for publication; take roles in the lab maintenance with other group members; and assist the supervisor to mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

Qualifications: The required qualifications include a recent Ph.D. degree (or expected soon) in biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry, microbiology or a related field; a strong record in conducting high-quality research in protein biochemistry or biophysics. Experience in either structural biology (X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM or nuclear magnetic resonance) or molecular biology of transcriptional regulation is highly desirable.

Training: The postdoc fellow will have the opportunity to learn comprehensive methods in preparation and characterization of metalloproteins in the Zhang group and first-hand training in cryo-EM in the collaborating research center supported by the NSF EPSCoR Research Fellowship.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is located in a vibrant and safe city offering an outstanding and affordable quality of life, and numerous multi-cultural and entertainment benefits. The Redox Biology Center is organized as a broad-based interdisciplinary and multi-institutional entity involving researchers from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, and offers a supportive and collaborative international environment as well as access to cutting-edge proteomics, metabolomics, crystallography, and NMR facilities. We are also expected to have a cryo-EM instrument (Glacios w/Falcon 4i, Selectris EF & Ceta-D camera) installed at UNL in the summer of 2023.

Recognizing that diversity within a context of inclusivity enhances creativity, innovation, impact, and a sense of belonging, the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) and the Department of Biochemistry are committed to creating learning, research, Extension programming, and work environments that are inclusive of all forms of human diversity. We actively encourage applications from and nominations of individuals from underrepresented groups.

To apply for the position, please submit a letter of interest with a short summary of past research experience; your curriculum vitae, and contact information for three professional references, including phone numbers and emails to limei.zhang@unl.edu
