What You Will Achieve

This is a laboratory-based position within the Vaccine Research - Early Bioprocess Development - Analytical Development group. The individual will develop separation, spectroscopic or other analytical assays required for characterization of early phase vaccine candidates and adjuvant products, including proteins, mRNA, conjugates and liposomes. Additionally, the individual will contribute to the design and execution of the qualification and transfer of these assays. The individual will provide scientific and technical support within the team of analytical scientists, as well as work with multifunctional teams outside of their reporting structure.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Independently design and execute spectroscopic, chromatographic or CE based analytical method development experiments, summarize the development activities, and present the results to stake holders.
  • Provide analytical support for release, characterization and stability of vaccine drug substances and drug products in support of vaccine discovery and development activities.
  • Independently troubleshoot when experimental issues arise and propose appropriate solutions.
  • Document experiments, analyze data, and provide conclusions contemporaneously in an electronic notebook.
  • Author various documents/report including laboratory methods, CoAs, specification reports, stability protocols and reports to support the vaccine program portfolio.
  • Mentor and guide other scientists as needed.
  • Contribute and participate in general laboratory maintenance activities (e.g. maintenance of equipment, managing laboratory waste, etc).


Qualifications

Must-Have
  • PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related discipline with at least 2 years of academic, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology experience or an MS plus 7 years of related work experience is required.
  • A strong background in relevant analytical assays with advanced knowledge is a must.
  • A team player with strong interpersonal and organizational skills are a must.
  • The candidate must be self-motivated, engaged, and able to perform tasks independently.
  • Ability to effectively manage, organize, and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication as well as excellent documentation skills are required.
  • Ability to utilize computer programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access Database, Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).


Nice-to-Have

  • Proficiency and ability to utilize different analytical techniques, including separation-based analytical techniques (RP-HPLC/UPLC, SEC, IEX, CE), spectroscopic (UV, Fluorescence) or other analytical techniques (Agarose gel, SDS-Page and Viewsizer) for biomolecule characterization, e.g. protein, mRNA based vaccine and conjugates.
  • Deep understanding of the quality attributes of an RNA LNP vaccine is highly preferred.
  • Proven experience in generating high quality data is preferred.
  • Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills.


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Standard laboratory conditions - sitting, standing, primarily lab based.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations and ability to perform complex data analysis.
