The Wistar Institute is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, mentoring, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of our academic/research community.

The Wistar Institute is seeking a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Fellow with expertise in handling and analyzing large quantities of human samples, including blood and tissues in Dr. Abdel-Mohsen Laboratory. Our laboratory is committed to advancing our knowledge of the immune response in individuals living with viral infections, with a specific emphasis on diseases such as HIV. We employ cutting-edge methodologies and state-of-the-art techniques to unravel the intricate interactions between the immune system and viral pathogens.

We are actively seeking a motivated and skilled postdoctoral researcher to join our dynamic team. The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in investigating the immune response of individuals living with viral infections, with a primary focus on HIV. This position provides an exceptional opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research that may lead to the development of innovative therapeutic interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting immunological experiments using human blood and tissue samples from individuals living with viral infections, primarily HIV.
  • Proficiently performing techniques such as flow cytometry, ELISA, and colorimetric assays to assess immune cell populations, cytokine production, and antibody responses.
  • Designing and executing experiments to investigate immune responses to viral infections, including assessing cellular and humoral immunity.
  • Analyzing and interpreting experimental data and preparing scientific reports and presentations.
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of researchers to develop and implement research projects.
  • Keeping abreast of relevant scientific literature and contributing to the development of research proposals.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Immunology, Virology, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in processing human blood and tissue samples for immunological assays.
  • Proficiency in flow cytometry, ELISA, and colorimetric assays.
  • Solid understanding of immunological techniques and methodologies.
  • Experience working with human samples from individuals living with viral infections, particularly HIV, is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

In addition to submitting the online application, interested applicants should e-mail their CV along with a cover letter briefly describing their research accomplishments and current research interests to Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Mohsen, (mmohsen@wistar.org).

Wistar is home to one of the most productive HIV research programs in the nation, focused on studying the immunological and virological determinants of HIV persistence and immunopathogenesis (https://wistar.org/research-discoveries/vaccine-immunotherapy-center/hiv-research-program). Wistar HIV researchers are part of the Penn CFAR (Center for AIDS Research), one of 19 NIH-funded HIV research centers located at academic and research institutions throughout the United States. The Penn CFAR facilitates interdisciplinary collaborations among basic and clinical HIV and AIDS investigators at the University of Pennsylvania, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and The Wistar Institute. The Wistar HIV research program also leads the Martin Delaney Collaboratory Program, BEAT-HIV, focused on advancing the HIV cure agenda through both basic and clinical studies. The collaborative team includes more than 60 members worldwide from academia and industry.
