The District is recruiting for Air Quality Inspectors to fill the current vacancies in our Modesto office. The eligible list established as a result of this recruitment may also be used to fill future vacancies. Air Quality Inspector I is the entry-level class in the field inspection series. Incumbents learn the principles and practices necessary to evaluate and enforce compliance with air pollution control regulations. Incumbents will conduct inspections of manufacturing, industrial, commercial, and agricultural operations to ensure adherence to air quality standards and regulations; use monitoring equipment and instrumentation to measure and evaluate various emissions and particulates; respond to and investigate public complaints regarding air pollution concerns; perform spot checks to identify permit and emission violations; conduct chemical and plume evaluation tests and record findings; issue violation notices; and conduct permit inspections on newly established facilities.
After two years of service, incumbents are eligible to promote to Air Quality Inspector II. At the II level, incumbents are fully competent to perform the full range of inspection and compliance assignments requiring considerable judgment and knowledge of a variety of industries.
