Post-doctoral position in Inflammation, Autoimmunity and Microbiome research
Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC
Mentor: Dr. Chenthamarakshan Vasu
A post-doctoral position is available to study the influence of gut microbiota and microbial metabolites in autoimmunity and inflammation. Project involves studies using specific pathogen free and germ-free mouse models of autoimmunity and inflammation, and conventional and humanized mouse models. Understanding the role of gut microbiota interaction with various innate immune receptors and other immune components employing multiple gene knockout mouse models will be part of the project. Identifying microbial metabolites and functional characterizations of their effects on immune function will also be part of the project. Other aspects studied in the lab include engineering primary immune cell and stem cell for treating autoimmunity and determining the molecular and cell biology aspects of tumorigenesis. More details can be found at: https://medicine.musc.edu/departments/microbiology/research-program/vasu-lab
Candidates must hold a recent doctoral degree or equivalent in biomedical sciences. Candidates with previous experience and strong publication record in the fields of immunology and autoimmunity/inflammation research using rodent models will be considered. Candidates who are well-versed in immune cell isolation and functional characterization, multiparametric flowcytometry, and high-throughput data analysis will be preferred.
MUSC is located in the beautiful historic district of Charleston bounded by the Atlantic Ocean and beautiful beaches to the east, and national forests and wildlife refuges to the north and south.
