Postdoctoral Positions

Notch Function in Inflammatory Angiogenesis, Tumor Angiogenesis, and Metastasis

We’re looking for motivated postdocs to join the Jan Kitajewski lab to lead externally funded projects and develop our unique programs in vascular physiology and disease. Projects will focus on how Notch regulates inflammatory angiogenesis in three areas of impact: ocular disease, tumor angiogenesis, and metastasis. The Kitajewski lab is a multidisciplinary group investigating physiological and pathological angiogenesis with complementary in vitro, in vivo, and in silico approaches. Our lab offers opportunities to investigate fundamental mechanisms of normal and inflammatory angiogenesis or to develop therapeutic approaches to target disease. The Kitajewski lab is committed to supporting scientists from diverse backgrounds. We pay NIH scale salaries and fund career development activities, including conferences, specialized courses, and community outreach. Postdocs in our lab have been highly competitive in obtaining external funding and successfully populating academic, industry, and science policy positions.

We are investigating mechanisms by which endothelial Notch signaling regulates tumor and inflammation-driven angiogenesis using genetic mouse models and several first-in-class potential biotherapeutics. The Kitajewski lab is currently looking for a postdoc with expertise in inflammation, tumor microenvironment, immunobiology, metastatic mechanisms, and/or pathological angiogenesis.

The University of Illinois in Chicago offers outstanding vascular and cancer biology communities, and established networks for collaborations in the Great Lakes region. A vibrant and affordable city, Chicago offers world-class cultural institutions, walkable neighborhoods, and diverse culinary experiences.

Candidates must have a doctoral, medical, or MD/PhD degree, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and strong record of publication. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Email curriculum vitae, brief statement of experience, and names of three references to: Dr. Jan Kitajewski at kitaj@uic.edu and Dr. Naiche Adler at naiche@uic.edu.

The University of Illinois at Chicago is an Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action employer. Minorities, women, veterans and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply. The University of Illinois may conduct background checks on all job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent offer. Background checks will be performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Company

The Kitajewski lab is housed in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

We are a highly collaborative lab focused in several areas related to vascular biology. As a team, we strive to uncover the roles of a number of pathways including Notch, Chloride Intracellular Channels (CLICs), and Anthrax Toxin Receptors in developmental and pathological angiogenesis.
