Research Scientist

Key Functions

  1. The Research Scientist will apply the expertise and experience to plan, organize, coordinate, and conduct scientific research projects. The Research scientist will be knowleagable on the biology of renal and bladder cancer. The candidate will be familiar with appropriate pre-clinical and clinical genitourinary (GU) cancer (kidney, prostate, and bladder) models (transgenic mice, cell lines and PDXs), will plan and conduct experiments on the molecular and immunologic properties of GU cancer microenvironment, have the ability to perform the bioinformatics of transcriptome and proteome analyses. These tasks will require strong organizational skills, innovative thinking, diligent execution of experimental procedures and interpretation skills, as well as the ability to perform independent troubleshooting on assays.
  2. This person will particularly need research and interpersonal skills to work with basic research scientists, trainees including urology/medical oncology fellows, as well as clinicians for patient-based sample acquisition, processing, and analyses as a part of very dynamic translational research team.
  3. The candidate will work closely with lab PI for assistance in grant preparation, manuscript writing, assist with the report of experimental results for presentation in scientific meetings and publication in peer-reviewed journals. Participate in laboratory meetings to present research findings to colleagues. Attend to academic conferences or meetings for oral or visual production of posters.
  4. Special skills will include but not limit to: in vitro cell culture, molecular cell biological techniques, anti-cancer drug screening and testing, in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo cell imaging / tracing, design and develop experiments for immunotherapies and tumor microenvironment studies, analytical biochemistry techniques including MS and HPLC, strong animal study skills and techniques including GEMM model and PDX/CDX model, patient / animal tissue collection and processing for sequencing and primary culture, histological techniques including H&E staining and IHC.
  5. Conducts critical experimental record keeping in laboratory notebooks. Performs routine data analysis and reporting. All conducted projects require review literature, experimental design, alternative approaches, organization, time-line, coordination, data interpretation, future directions and compiles, writes and submits report to supervisor.
  6. Supervises, mentors, and counsels trainees and other laboratory personnel with respect to proper laboratory techniques, the use of laboratory equipment and safety procedures. Guide, teach and supervise technicians and students to accomplish research or other laboratory duties.
  7. Write manuscripts, research proposals and apply for grant funding, and collaborate with lab members to reinforce expertise and speed up research programs.
  8. Other duties as assigned.


Education Required - Masters degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

Experience Required - Four years of experience in experimental or scientific work. With PhD, no experience required.
