The Johnson Lab at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is seeking to hire a staff scientist to manage mass spectrometry-based proteomics resources in the lab. The Johnson lab applies quantitative proteomics approaches to understand pro- and antiviral signaling networks. We have active, NIH-funded projects studying SARS-CoV-2, HIV-1, Ebola virus, yellow fever virus, and gammaherpesviruses.

Required qualifications for this position:

  • A Ph.D. in chemistry, biology, or similar relevant discipline
  • Experience preparing samples for quantitative mass spectrometry-based proteomics analyses
  • Experience operating and maintaining a high-resolution mass spectrometry system, preferably Orbitrap series, with an online UHPLC system
  • Experience analyzing quantitative mass spectrometry-based proteomics data
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a large portfolio of collaborators, projects, samples, and data sets
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Duties for this position will include:

  • Meeting with collaborators to design proteomics experiments
  • Operating and maintaining mass spectrometry and UHPLC resources in the lab
  • Preparing biological samples for proteomics analyses (e.g., trypsin digestion, desalting, post-translational modification enrichment)
  • Analyzing raw mass spectrometry data
  • Communicating results with collaborators
  • Maintaining a detailed lab notebook of collaborations, projects, and methods
  • Potential to supervise a research associate to assist with tasks
