This division is the innovation engine of Novartis, focusing on new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients. The Biotherapeutic Engineering and Gene Therapy (BEGT) group is a part of the NIBR Biologics Center (NBC). BEGT drives a diverse portfolio of modalities including therapeutic proteins, multi-specific antibodies, CAR-T, RNAi therapeutics, AAV and lentiviral vectors. NBC works collaboratively with disease area groups to broaden the use of biologics in therapeutic applications.

We have an opportunity for a Senior Scientist to join our team in Cambridge, MA. In this role, you will work on primary and immortalized cell culture systems to evaluate RNA interference (RNAi) for potency, stability, and specificity in hepatic and extra hepatic pathological implications. As a key contributor in a dynamic and multidisciplinary team, you will be involved in the development of RNAi platforms to identify drug candidates and further optimize lead candidates in close collaboration with partner teams at NIBR.

What you’ll be doing: Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Provide key biology expertise throughout discovery and development stages in RNAi. Explore new technologies and find creative solutions to optimize current platform.
• Design and lead cell-based and molecular biology strategies for target validation from medium to high throughput screenings.
• Work collaboratively internally and with CROs to run genome wide assessments of drug candidates.
• Present scientific interpretation in project team meetings and prepare data for presentations to a variety of audiences.

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role (required):
• B.S./M.S. with 5-8+ years relevant experience in Molecular/Cell Biology or Biochemistry or related field in industry.
• Proficiency in mammalian cell culture and primary cell culture assays and hands on experience on RT-qPCR, RNA isolation, protein, ELISA, NGS.
• Experience in design and lead cell-based assays, collaborate internally and externally with CROs to meet deadlines in fast changing environment.

Desirable:
• Desirable to have a strong knowledge and track record of accomplishment in the field of RNAi.
• Experience in data analysis of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS); bioinformatic skills considered advantageous.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between Senior Scientist I: $92,800-139,200, Senior Scientist II: $102,400-153,600 a year, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
