The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Our work covers a broad array of topics in the focus areas of energy, infrastructure, environment, materials, and analytical sciences.

Your responsibilities include:

Development and application of robotic non-destructive testing methods (NDT) in BAM's Department 8 (non-destructive testing). The focus here is on supporting ongoing research and development projects, conceptualising and developing new applications, and coordinating and initiating new R&D projects in the field of robotic NDT in Department 8. There is already a team of employees, equipment and projects that deal with this topic.

  • Support of ongoing research work in the field of robot-assisted NDT in Department 8
  • Creation of a concept for robot-assisted NDT in Department 8 and coordination of the work in this area
  • Development and advancement of new applications in the field of robot-assisted NDT in Department 8
  • Establishment of networks, participation in committees and application for third-party funded research projects
  • Presentation and publication of research results at conferences and in journals as well as technology transfer
  • Supervision of young scientists (student assistants, bachelor's and master's theses, doctorates if applicable)

Your qualifications:

  • Completed scientific university studies (master's degree or diploma) in automation technology, robotics, physics, mechanical engineering, physical engineering or similar
  • A doctorate that has been completed or is in the process of being completed is an advantage
  • Several years of professional experience in one of the above-mentioned thematic areas of robotics or automation
  • Knowledge and experience of physical measurement technology and/or non-destructive testing is an advantage
  • Good knowledge of at least one programming language
  • Experience in applying for and managing externally funded projects and supervising staff is an advantage
  • Knowledge and experience with industrial robots and ROS (Robot Operation System) is an advantage, especially practical experience
  • Very good knowledge of German (at least C1) and English (written and spoken)
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Willingness to work at different BAM locations, as well as willingness to travel to project partners, conferences and nationwide measurement campaigns
  • Goal-oriented and structured way of working, initiative/willingness and ability to work as well as conceptual, strategic and innovative thinking skills
