Position Summary

The position of Senior Research Program Manager, Immune Effector Cellular Therapies (IEC) is pivotal in providing operational and administrative oversight of both investigational and commercially available immune effector cellular therapy in the outpatient setting. Accordingly, this role will have a dual report to the Executive Director, Research Clinical Care Coordination and the Medical Director for Immune Effector Cellular Therapies. The individual in this role will be instrumental in planning, developing, and implementing the coordination of care in this patient population to ensure an acceptable safety profile is developed. Additionally, this individual will help create workflows and processes to continuously optimize outpatient care of cellular patients to meet research and regulatory standards that lead to successful research audits and FACT accreditation.

This role focuses on:

Designing a care pathway to optimize proactive treatment and support of individuals receiving investigational and commercially available IEC therapy in the outpatient setting

Collaborating on training of staff involved with the treatment of patients receiving IEC therapy

Providing ongoing education as needed with the introduction of new IEC products

Assisting the medical director in developing an optimum safety profile for patients treated with IEC therapy in the outpatient setting

Coordinating various levels of care to promote decreased hospital days in patients receiving investigational and commercial IEC products.

Developing and presenting ongoing metrics to key stakeholders which outline program progress, safety parameters, admission and length of stay rates, as well as overall financial impact.

Utilizing national benchmarks in review of organizational metrics to solidify City of Hope as a center of excellence in providing IEC treatments and ensuring excellent care.

Essential Functions:

• Clinical Practice: Patient and Family Assessment (Initial and Ongoing)
• Maintains current knowledge of treatment of EIC patients in the outpatient setting including appropriate dosing and administration, infusion reaction and cytokine release syndrome adverse event management
• Guides patient care appointments as needed to ensure timely, appropriate treatment
• Works with care team to streamline and enhance care of patients
• Clinical Practice: Education
• Assists with staff education as needed to ensure competent care.
• Develops IEC patient care pathways to optimize outpatient treatment while maintaining patient safety throughout continuum
• Partners with clinical leaders, Patient Coordinators, team leads to ensure current knowledge in providing safe care
• Develops a patient/family education plan based on assessment findings relevant to teaching/learning topics, style and the identification of special needs and preferences.
• Assists in the development of appropriate supplemental materials to patients to reinforce verbal instruction.
• Identifies areas of knowledge deficits in patient care and collaborates with team to develop training programs to optimize care
• Clinical Research
• Anticipates and/or identifies potential logistical barriers to adherence to visit schedule or treatment plan and includes appropriate team members in problem resolution to ensure care delivery is appropriate, timely and efficient.
• Promotes utilization of evidence based practice delivery of patient care.
• Collaborates with clinical research nurse, as appropriate.
• Clinical Program Support
• Mines, analyzes, interprets and reports clinical data to Protocol Management Team leadership.
• Effectively delegates task to appropriate roles to maintain accountability as defined within multidisciplinary disease team requirements.
• Collaborates with other team members to develop and implement relevant clinical tools to support patient care across the continuum.
• Optimizes value in role to support efficiency of care delivery and reduce variations in care.
• Quality
• Identifies and monitors program quality metrics relevant to patient care and disease team clinical outcomes.
• Participates in disease team specific patient safety and monitoring and performance improvement activities.
• Serves as an organizational and community liaison for the Program,
• Reviews content relevant to role for ongoing enhancements of educational materials, promotional information, web content, etc as pertains to disease focus.
• Maintains relationship with Patient Advisory Council to ensure care delivery remains patient/family focused and engages patients/family in disease program changes.
• Professional Development
• Sets and strives to meet annual goals for professional development per individualized developmental plan for Care Coordinator role
• Achievement and maintenance of nationally recognized certification is highly encouraged.
• Actively participates in hospital and disease team committees and projects.
• Pursues professional and scholarly experiences to advance body of knowledge gained from role development.
• Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan. Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing required, Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum 5 years healthcare experiencing in an oncology setting with 2 years caring for patients receiving cellular therapy. Experience with policies/procedures, program development, data analysis, and physician relations.

Required Certification/Licensure:

• Current RN licensure in the State of California; completed Human Subject Protection Training within 3 months of assuming role.
