What You Will Achieve

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to lead the Flow Cytometry Technology Center within Pfizer's Inflammation and Immunology Research Unit located at the Pfizer Kendall Square Research site. This individual will lead a team of flow cytometry specialists to support Research Unit and partner line scientists across multi-disciplinary backgrounds in helping them achieve the best results from their flow cytometry experiments. This individual will also perform their own research using cutting edge flow cytometry instrumentation and methodologies to support various functional areas. As such, the successful candidate should have an extensive background in cutting edge flow cytometry instrumentation and troubleshooting, high-parameter panel development, cell sorting and expertise in assay design and computational interpretation of results. The Principal Scientist role will require strong managerial and interpersonal skills and the successful candidate should have a history of performing innovative and high-quality work in a flow cytometry lab setting.

How You Will Achieve It
  • Articulate and implement a strategy for the FCTC that meets the diverse needs of the scientist and project teams across the KSQ research ecosystem.
  • Stays on top of innovative flow cytometry technologies by attending conferences/ webinars, stays current with technology/ methods and scientific developments through literature and technology vendor interactions in order to maintain and constantly evolve this leading flow cytometry technology center.
  • Train and assist scientists from various research units and partner lines on all aspects of flow cytometry including flow cytometry instrument startup, acquisition, troubleshooting, data transfer and proper analysis and reporting.
  • Supervise and train other members of the Flow Cytometry Technology Center staff on various concepts and methodologies pertaining to flow cytometry such as spectral cytometry, assay development and cell sorting.
  • Develop complex cells staining panels of 30+ colors for use by various groups and teams as well as the candidates own project support work and present these concepts and findings in group/ program meetings.
  • Supervise and perform cell sorting in both a low and high-parameter fashion for both service to our many users and the candidates own project work.
  • Responsible for/ involved in planning, optimizing and performing cell-based bioassays (phenotypical and functional) to support early and late-stage research projects across the organization.
  • Analyze and present complex high-dimensional data using cutting edge dimensionality reduction tools, such as OMIQ.
  • Successful candidate will work with other scientists to teach and assist in how to thoughtfully plan, run and analyze/visualize these complex, high-dimensional assays.
  • Develops workshops and presents across the Flow Tech Center user group community to educate many scientists on the diverse topics of flow cytometry.


  • Master's Degree in Science with 8+ years' or PhD with minimum 2-5 years' experience
  • 8+ years of experience in flow cytometry setting (core-lab or similar)
  • Extensive expertise with BD flow cytometers and cell sorters, among other manufacturer's instruments and their associated software
  • Extensive expertise designing and working with high-dimensional flow panels exceeding 25 colors
  • Extensive experience in designing and executing complex, high-parameter flow-sorting experiments
  • Experience with spectral flow cytometry and instrumentation such as Cytek Aurora cytometer
  • Extensive Expertise with FlowJo, OMIQ and or similar computational/ analytical software.
  • Be a knowledge base for all things related to flow cytometry to assist users in understanding the fundamentals of the technology and be a resource for acquiring, analyzing and correctly interpreting results?
  • Expertise with scientific methods associated with working in a BL2 lab atmosphere such as: aseptic technique, cell culture, sample preparation and using the instrumentation and tools related to this type of work
  • Commitment to scientific rigor and leading an innovative scientific team
  • Strong and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with personal computers, including word processing, Excel, PowerPoint, and relevant scientific software
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team setting to develop positive working relationships and accomplish results to inform project teams on making next-step decisions

  • Previous experience working in a flow cytometry core lab or shared resource laboratory.
  • Proven record of leading research using innovative flow cytometry technology to drive scientific projects forward.
  • 5+ years of experience in drug discovery or development for inflammatory or autoimmune indications
