A postdoctoral position is available in the Type 1 diabetes (T1D) group, led by Professor Johnny Ludvigsson and Associate Professor Rosaura Casas at Linköping University, Sweden. The research of the group is focused on therapies aiming at preservation of beta cell function in T1D, in particular immune-based interventions. To achieve this, we have successfully combined the in-house multidisciplinary expertise in performing unique clinical trials with advanced immunological methodologies aimed to evaluate and develop novel therapeutic interventions. Fails in attempts to prevent or find a cure for T1D highlight the heterogeneity of the disease and the fact that treatment should probably be developed in a step-wise and gradual manner and adapted to certain sub-groups of patients. Thus, as next step, we want to focus on the search of biomarkers which can be used both to improve inclusion criteria, to improve proportion of responders and to follow the response to the treatment. Integration of the System biology approach will allow to process and analyze extensive clinical and experimental data from clinical intervention trials.
We seek a highly motivated and focused individual to join our research group. The applicant must have received a doctoral degree from an accredited college/university outside Sweden in the field of biomedical sciences or related areas. We welcome a creative, hardworking and enthusiastic team-player to our group. Hands-on experience in cells culture, flow cytometry, Luminex and Isolating and analyzing DNA, RNA is required. Experience in clinical studies as well as research looking at the immunological responses with special emphasis in lymphocytes is desirable but not required. The candidate is expected to partake in experimental design, experimentation, presentations, and preparation of publication. The ideal candidate has a strong publication record and can provide evidence of the ability to work in a team.
The research group
Our group consists of international post docs, PhD fellows and research engineers with expertise in experimental immunology and Type 1 diabetes. The group offers a unique research environment with synergy between immunology and clinical research. Publications from the group are found in NEJM, Diabetes, Diabetologia, Frontiers in Immunology, PloS One and Clinical Immunology among others. The group has extensive international collaborations and is supported by national and international grants.
