A fully supported Postdoctoral position is currently available in the Sodora Laboratory as part of newly NIH-funded joint project with the Sather Laboratory. The HIV pandemic is still a major problem worldwide, with ongoing efforts to develop a vaccine being hampered, we believe, by a lack of knowledge regarding the earliest events post-mucosal HIV infection. The successful candidate will oversee an NIH funded project to evaluate host-viral interactions at the earliest times following mucosal transmission of the simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) in the macaque animal model (these experiments are undertaken in association with collaborators at the Oregon Primate Center). Studies will utilize a novel approach for induction of mucosal SIV infection, which will allow for an assessment of immune modulating approaches that influence viral/host interactions that occur at early times post-mucosal infection.

The ideal candidate will have a solid background in one or more of the following areas: Immunology, Vaccinology or Virology. We are seeking applicants who are highly motivated, passionate, and innovative, who are not afraid to take risks and who thrive in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.  Finally, the person needs to be team oriented as this position will involve scientific interactions with both the Sodora and Sather laboratories.  Dr. Don Sodora is a Professor and Dr. Noah Sather an Associate Professor at Seattle Children’s Research Institute and the University of Washington, Dept of Pediatrics.  The Sodora Lab is focused on understanding HIV-induced pathogenesis and HIV transmission, while the Sather Lab is focused on vaccines and B cell immunity to HIV, malaria and SARS-CoV-2. The postdoctoral fellow hired for this position will work as part of both laboratories as part of this interdisciplinary and highly integrated project.


Required Education/Experience:
-Doctorate degree (PhD/DVM/MD) in specialty area from an accredited university training program
- Experience using basic research techniques of specialty area
