Open position for postdoctoral fellow studying entry, replication, and the immune response to hepatitis C virus

Binding of HCV E2 to the cellular receptor CD81

The Structural Virology Section of the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) has a strong basic research program in hepatitis C virus and related viruses. Viral biology and host responses are studied by high-resolution, structural biology techniques (X-ray crystallography and cryo-EM) and in vitro studies. The laboratory’s recent publications include Kumar et al. Nature 2021 and Kumar et al. Nature Communications 2023. Additionally, visit the NIH’s website to check out the NIAID Scientists Find a Key to Hepatitis C Entry into Cells news release.

The laboratory is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher interested in applying structural and molecular biology techniques to study viral infection and vaccine design. The laboratory provides a rich training environment with access to cutting-edge technologies.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or M.D. obtained within the last 3 years. Candidates with a strong background in virology or structural biology will be given preference. Previous experience in molecular biology is essential, and candidates should have a publication record in peer-reviewed journals. The laboratory seeks candidates with excellent writing and communication skills who can work independently as well as with other members in a productive team.

To Apply

Applicants should send a short statement of research goals, a curriculum vitae (CV), and the names and contact information of three references to Dr. Joseph Marcotrigiano via email at joseph.marcotrigiano@nih.gov. Underrepresented minorities are especially encouraged to apply. NIH is dedicated to building a diverse community through its training and employment programs.
