The Center for Precision Environmental Health at Baylor College of Medicine, a top-20 medical school ranked among the best research-intensive institutions in the US, invites applications for a tenured faculty position at the level of Associate or Full Professor. The Center for Precision Environmental Health is an academic unit of Baylor College of Medicine, occupying dedicated space on the College's main campus, located in the heart of the Texas Medical Center, the largest biomedical research campus in the world.

Baylor College of Medicine is also home to the NCI-funded Dan L. Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center (DLDCCC), which serves a diverse patient population through its clinical partners: Baylor-St Luke's Medical Center, Michael E. DeBakey VA Hospital, Harris Health System, and Texas Children's Hospital. Ample opportunities exist for collaborations with faculty throughout the Texas Medical Center, including The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), Texas A&M University Health Sciences Center, Houston Methodist Research Institute, Rice University, and the University of Houston.

Summary

The ideal candidate will have an established research program studying important questions relevant to precision environmental health such as basic research in carcinogenesis (broadly defined), mechanisms of disease pathogenesis, genetics, or epigenetics; translational research in molecular epidemiology or population health; or computational biology. Candidates with research programs relevant to cancer may also be eligible for recruitment funding from the Cancer and Prevention Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) and are especially encouraged to apply.

In addition to their own independent research program, the selected candidate will assume a leadership role as Deputy Director of the NIEHS P30 Core Center for the Texas Medical Center: The Gulf Coast Center for Precision Environmental Health (GC-CPEH). This P30 Center is one of several multi-institutional activities based in the College, including a NIEHS T32 training grant in Precision Environmental Health Sciences supporting pre- and post-doctoral fellows working at the interface of genetics, environmental health and data science, a P50 Center of Excellence in Environmental Health Disparities Research, and a P42 Superfund Research Center.  This outstanding environment for cutting-edge environmental health sciences research is further enhanced by access to Baylor's state-of-the art core facilities and highly ranked M.D./Ph.D. and Ph.D. graduate programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent) with a strong record of productivity, and be nationally and/or internationally recognized scholars with consistent externally funded research programs. The Search Committee hopes to draw from a diverse applicant pool, with applications from women and individuals from underrepresented populations strongly encouraged. Prospective candidates should send a statement of research accomplishments and research plans (no more than 2 pages total), CV and a list of at least three references to precisionhealth@bcm.edu. Review of applications will begin immediately and remain open until the position is filled. Applications will be considered in strict confidence.

Diversity among Baylor's students, trainees, faculty, and staff is a prerequisite to accomplishing Baylor's institutional mission, and to maintaining the highest standards in training for healthcare providers and biomedical scientists, scientific innovation, and patient-centered care. Baylor is committed to ensuring equal opportunity for all qualified persons without considering race, color, national origin, creed, sex, sexual orientation, ancestry, age, veteran status, or disability unrelated to job requirements.
